Follow this carefully planned day-by-day Morocco photography itinerary as you travel through deserts, valleys, ancient cities, and blue mountain towns. Each day is designed around the best light and locations, combining cultural discovery with unforgettable landscapes, giving you the freedom to capture Morocco at its most authentic.
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech
Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival in Marrakech, meet your local guide and transfer to your riad. Depending on arrival time, enjoy light photography in the medina, Jemaa el-Fna Square, or nearby gardens. Capture your first impressions of Morocco’s vibrant colors and street life. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 2: Marrakech – High Atlas – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Depart Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping for landscape photography and Berber village scenes. Visit the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, one of Morocco’s most iconic photography locations. Continue to Ouarzazate for sunset shots over desert plains and kasbah silhouettes. Overnight in Ouarzazate.
Day 3: Ouarzazate – Skoura Oasis – Dades Valley
Travel through the Skoura palm oasis, photographing ancient kasbahs surrounded by palm groves. Continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward the Dades Valley. Enjoy afternoon photography among dramatic rock formations and lush valleys, followed by golden-hour shooting before sunset. Overnight in Dades Valley.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert
Morning photography in Dades before heading to the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls offer striking natural compositions. Continue toward Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Arrive in time for sunset photography over the dunes. Overnight in a desert camp or hotel near Erg Chebbi.
Day 5: Merzouga Sahara Photography Day
A full day dedicated to Moroccan desert photography. Capture sunrise over the dunes, explore desert villages, nomadic communities, and fossil areas by 4×4, and photograph camel caravans and vast Sahara landscapes. Enjoy flexible pacing for portraits and nature shots. End the day with another magical sunset and stargazing. Overnight in Merzouga.
Day 6: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Fes
After an early sunrise shoot, depart Merzouga through the Ziz Valley, stopping for photography of palm oases and mountain scenery. Pass through Midelt and cedar forests before reaching Fes in the evening. Overnight in a traditional riad in Fes.
Day 7: Fes Guided Photography Tour
Explore Fes with a local guide, focusing on cultural photography in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas. Capture artisans at work, colorful tanneries, historic madrasas, and lively markets. Afternoon free for personal shooting or relaxation. Overnight in Fes.
Day 8: Fes – Rif Mountains – Chefchaouen
Travel north through the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen, the famous Blue City. Spend the afternoon photographing blue-washed streets, stairways, doorways, and mountain views. Sunset offers beautiful soft light across the medina. Overnight in Chefchaouen.
Day 9: Chefchaouen – Rabat – Casablanca
Morning photography in Chefchaouen before continuing toward Casablanca, with a stop in Rabat for photos of historic sites and coastal views. Arrive in Casablanca in the evening and enjoy photography near the Hassan II Mosque if time allows. Overnight in Casablanca.
Day 10: Casablanca – Marrakech – End of Tour
After breakfast, return to Marrakech by highway. Depending on departure time, enjoy final photography opportunities or shopping in the souks before transfer to the airport or your accommodation. End of your 10-Day Grand Morocco Photography Journey.
